{life} launching

It's been a little quiet around here. And there are two reasons for that. One, we're trying to enjoy Summer as much as possible: water parks, beach, ice cream, farmer's market, play dates, day trips and other fun activities. August arrived with some unseasonably cool weather so it seems Summer is almost over, but we still have a couple of weeks of sun and fun. The other reason is that I've been working on something I'd thought about doing for the last couple of years. And I think the time has finally come.

I didn't know how much I love and enjoy designing special parties until I became a mother. I'd designed and planned other parties before. We did our wedding almost all by ourselves, and I planned my sister's bridal shower. But it wasn't until I planned L's 5th birthday party that I discovered I really enjoyed designing with kids in mind. I enjoyed the whole process, from looking for inspiration, to planning, researching vendors and executing.

I know kids don't need expensive or elaborate parties to be happy. Of course they don't. You can have the simplest cake and a couple of balloons, and as long as the honored child is surrounded by his beloved parents and family I'm sure he'll enjoy his day so very much. Kids are simple creatures and they really enjoy the simplest things. However, with a little creativity and some extra time, and yes, in some cases maybe a little extra budget, you can make that event even more special. Simple but unique decorations, maybe his/her favorite homemade dessert or a how about a particular outfit. Any detail that can make your little one feel extra loved and adored on his day. Since L's 5th birthday party I promised myself to go a little out of my way {a couple of sleepless nights are totally worth it} to make my kids birthdays and celebrations extra, super special.

I've also heard some people say that "elaborated", "themed" parties are really for the parents, the adults, because kids won't remember anything. Probably true. But isn't your child's birthday, christening, first communion or any other special event, also YOUR celebration? I think so.

All this preface was just to explain that I love planning and designing parties, specially for kids. It's been a few years since the first party I planned, and I have come a long way. I've learned to be resourceful and practical and to work within a budget, without compromising results.

My family and friends have been telling me, for some time now, that I should offer my services. And I'd been giving that idea a good thought for quite some time. But I wasn't so sure. I mean, it's one thing to do this for my own kids, or family, but another to do it for other people. Will they be satisfied? Will they value my time and work? As an architect I can testify that the world of design is very subjective. As a consequence many people, especially those who are not in the {design} field, don't really value the work of a designer {I can tell from experience, believe me!}.

A few months ago, a couple of moms contacted me. They had seen my work in some features around the web and they wanted to work with me. After a couple of happy clients, I realized I could do this. And most important, I like doing it. I still, have my part-time job as an associate architect, which I'm enjoying as well, but I'd love to give this a try. I owe it to myself. If it doesn't work, well, at least I can say I tried, right?

So without further more, I'm very happy to launch: mamemima, stylish interiors & events for kids! I'll be offering my services now and these not only include parties, but also interiors, another passion of mine. So if you need help planning your baby's first birthday party or need help organizing and designing a nursery, email me!
I'm very excited about this new venture. So please wish me luck and take a look at my portfolio. You can also see my list of services here, like my facebook page, follow me on twitter and please don't forget to leave me a comment. I'd love to hear from you!
